Permissions & server setup
Check channel access and permissions for HalloweenBot.
HalloweenBot needs permission to interact with your Discord server. You can check the current channel with /checkperms.
Basic text permissions
Ensure the bot can View Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links and Attach Files in channels where you expect it to work. Features that inspect messages or react to them may also require Read Message History and Add Reactions.
Event and hunt features
Monster Drops also need Add Reactions and Read Message History in the event channel. If any required permission is missing, HalloweenBot turns the event off until you fix it and enable it again.
Pumpkin Hunter and Ghost Hunter need Read Message History and Add Reactions in the channels they can use.
Reward roles
To give out a reward role, HalloweenBot needs Manage Roles, and its own role must be above the reward role.
Voice features
For /play and /soundboard, join a voice channel and allow the bot to Connect and Speak there.
Settings permissions
The /setup, /levels, /welcome and /seteventconfig commands require Manage Server. They display settings and link to the dashboard, where authorised server managers can make changes.
When permissions look correct but commands still fail
- Run
/checkpermsin the affected channel. - Check the channel's permission overrides, including overrides for the bot's roles.
- Confirm the bot can see the destination channel configured for the feature.
- Review troubleshooting or contact support.
Avoid granting Administrator just to resolve a command issue; prefer the permissions actually needed.
