Getting Started

Initial Setup

Complete the initial HalloweenBot setup and configure your Discord server through the HalloweenBot Dashboard.

Once HalloweenBot has been added to your Discord server, you can begin configuring it for your community.

Most HalloweenBot features and server settings are managed through the HalloweenBot Dashboard.

Open the HalloweenBot Dashboard

Visit the HalloweenBot Dashboard and sign in using your Discord account.

Once signed in, select Servers from the sidebar.

The Servers page displays the Discord servers where you have permission to manage the server.

HalloweenBot Dashboard servers page

Your server should appear here if:

  • You are signed in with the correct Discord account.
  • You have permission to manage the Discord server.
  • Discord has returned the server as one you are able to manage.

If HalloweenBot is already installed, you will see a Bot Installed indicator and a Manage button.

Click Manage to open the server's configuration page.

Check HalloweenBot Is Installed

Before configuring your server, confirm that HalloweenBot has been added successfully.

On the Servers page, find the server you want to configure.

If HalloweenBot is installed, the server will display:

  • Manage Server
  • Bot Installed
  • A Manage button

Click Manage to continue.

If HalloweenBot is not installed, the server will display a Bot Not Installed indicator and an Invite HalloweenBot button.

Click Invite HalloweenBot and complete the Discord authorisation process before continuing.

You can also confirm that HalloweenBot is installed by checking your Discord server's member list.

Open Your Server

Once HalloweenBot is installed, click Manage next to your server.

This will open the server management area where you can configure the features available for your Discord server.

HalloweenBot server management page

From here, you can manage HalloweenBot without needing to configure most features through Discord commands.

Review Bot Permissions

HalloweenBot requires the correct Discord permissions to operate in your server.

The permissions required can vary depending on which features you enable.

Common permissions include:

  • View Channels
  • Send Messages
  • Embed Links
  • Attach Files
  • Read Message History
  • Manage Roles

Some features may require additional permissions.

HalloweenBot's role must be positioned above any Discord roles that you want the bot to manage.

If a feature is not working correctly, check that HalloweenBot has permission to access the configured channel and perform the required action.

Configure Your Server

Once you have opened your server in the HalloweenBot Dashboard, you can begin configuring the features you want to use.

Depending on the features currently available, you may be able to configure:

  • Welcome messages
  • Farewell messages
  • Halloween events
  • Daily countdowns
  • Custom commands
  • Language settings
  • Timezone settings
  • Premium features

Select the feature you want to configure and follow the options shown in the dashboard.

Some advanced features may require an active HalloweenBot Premium subscription.

Set Your Language

HalloweenBot supports multiple languages for supported bot messages and responses.

You can select the language that best suits your Discord community through the HalloweenBot Dashboard.

For a complete list of supported languages and instructions for changing your server's language, see the Language Settings documentation.

Set Your Timezone

Some HalloweenBot features rely on your server's configured timezone.

This can include:

  • Daily countdown messages
  • Scheduled events
  • Time-based announcements
  • Seasonal features

Make sure your timezone is configured correctly so that scheduled features run at the expected local time for your community.

Configure Feature Channels

Some HalloweenBot features require a Discord channel to be selected before they can operate.

For example, you may need to choose a channel for:

  • Welcome messages
  • Farewell messages
  • Daily countdown messages
  • Halloween event messages

When selecting a channel, make sure HalloweenBot has permission to:

  • View the channel
  • Send messages
  • Embed links
  • Read message history where required

If HalloweenBot cannot access the selected channel, the feature may not work correctly.

Configure Roles

Some features may require HalloweenBot to interact with Discord roles.

When configuring a role, make sure HalloweenBot's role is positioned above the role it needs to manage in your Discord server's role hierarchy.

You can check this by opening:

Discord Server Settings → Roles

Move the HalloweenBot role above any roles that it needs to assign or remove.

Discord does not allow bots to manage roles positioned above their own highest role.

Save Your Changes

When configuring a feature through the HalloweenBot Dashboard, make sure you save your changes before leaving the page.

Once saved, your new configuration will be used by HalloweenBot in your Discord server.

Some changes may take a short time to become visible.

If a setting does not appear to update immediately, refresh the dashboard and check the configuration again.

Test Your Configuration

After configuring a feature, test it where possible to make sure everything is working correctly.

Check that:

  • HalloweenBot can access the selected channels.
  • HalloweenBot can send messages.
  • Embeds display correctly.
  • Configured roles can be managed.
  • Scheduled features use the correct timezone.
  • Messages are using your selected language.

If a feature is not working, check HalloweenBot's Discord permissions and your dashboard configuration first.

Server Not Appearing

If your Discord server does not appear on the Servers page, check the following:

  • Make sure you are signed in with the correct Discord account.
  • Make sure you have permission to manage the server.
  • Refresh the Servers page.
  • Sign out and sign back into the HalloweenBot Dashboard.

The dashboard only displays servers that your Discord account has permission to manage.

Next Steps

Your server is now ready to use HalloweenBot.

You can return to the HalloweenBot Dashboard at any time to manage your server and configure additional features.

Next, we recommend reviewing the Permissions documentation to make sure HalloweenBot has all the permissions required for the features you want to use.
